Look at this great DIY transformation from Diane as seen on IkeaHacker. She found a discarded bench and painted on a beautiful Art Nouveau design. She found the design from a book and the transfered it on the bench using white colored pencil, then painted it in with acrylic paint.

Great inspiration if you're considering something for the January Jumpstart! Check out more images of how she did it here. (via Ikeahacker)

Gosh, people throw away the strangest things. The bench is beautiful.
very creative
I'm going to borrow this idea for a Ikea dresser....
Y'know, I'd never made the connection between Art Nouveau and the past year's stylized silhouette florals, but on the bench, it jumps out at me (in a good way). Interesting... and very creative, attractive, and well done.
Thank you for featuring me on Apartment Therapy! I am so excited and hope my little diy project helps to inspire others!
I have that very same bench from IKEA... while the original picture makes it look like a beautiful piece of wood, it's really just a thin veneer. Nice paint job on it, though
Bravo on a fabulous use of design and ingenuity!
And later, one could almost remove the wood and hang it as a lovely piece of art.
Did you put a clear sealer on top of it to protect the acrylic? I'm thinking unsealed acrylic might scratch off if you actually sit on the bench...
East16th- yes, i put a matte finish veneer on it, so it won't scratch off!
