Last night we were walking by this restaurant in our neighborhood, when we were arrested by the super cool ceiling illuminations cast from the pendants. It lit the whole restaurant up like a carnival, but not in a glaring way...

It was hard to get too close with the camera because the waiters seemed jumpy about us hanging outside (and it's an Italian restaurant, so you don't want them to think your police or mob), but we edged in to get these two pics with our cameraphone.
The pendants were cut metal in little scalloped patterns, which cast a really beautiful pattern on the ceiling. This would NOT be hard to do yourself, but we just haven't seen it done in a long time. Very 70's really.

Italian resturant = mobsters? really Maxwell?
Da Silvano probably thought you were a paparazzi.
Gorgeous! I wonder if a colander DIY [I've seen those posted before] would work just as beautifully.
Wow, what's more offensive? Your incorrect spelling of "you're" or your characterization of Italians as mobsters....?
Reticulation ("pierced") is a hot, hot trend. I found my amazing Middle Eastern globe pendant at a second-hand store; the light patterns are AMAZING! http://stylenorth.ca/blog/2008/10/rock-the-casbah/
Where is the Italian Anti-Defamation League when you need them?
No kidding.
