While this room looks nice, I think it would be hard for most people to make a black room that wasn't overly depressing.

My son had been wanting to paint his bedroom black (before he moved into his own place). I just couldn't visualize it, but seeing this makes me realize that it wouldn't have been too bad. It does look rather restful.

I couldn't do it... I use my bedroom too much during the day to want it to look like that.

I love how those colored pillows pop though. And the stuff on the night stand. It would be a fun place to showcase a few crystal items with the right lighting.

The picture looks nice, but I would think that over time, this room would become depressing. I prefer a light soothing color in the bedroom.

But I do think my own bedroom is too small for this color.

The black walls and black furniture help the space to receede, actally making the room look larger. Nicely done.

I like it. But you'd have to be careful about how neat your non-black items are. I know it's staging, but this room looks messy because all my eye rests on are the out of place non-black things.

Black paint seems to be turning into the same easy fall-back solution to a boring bedroom that red paint was to boring dining rooms a few years ago, but that's no reason not to use it. The fact that other people are doing something is not a good reason for us to do it--as our mothers used to remind us when we were kids: And what if Milhaus jumps off a cliff, Bart? Are you gong to do that, too?"--but it's also no really a good reason to avoid doing it, either, not if, in fact, whatever it is happens to work for you. And as far as that bit about black rooms being "depressing" goes, there's no reason a black room should be depressing unless it's also gloomy, which is a whole 'nother thing and for which, fortunaetely, there are plenty of solutions.

I had an all-black bedroom/sittingroom 20 years ago--flat black walls, satin black trim, shiny black floors, black velvet curtains (trimmed in multicolored eyelash fringe)--and it was anything but gloomy, mostly because it had three big south-facing windows, a bright-white ceiling & a lustrous terra-cotta wool rug that kept the light bouncing all around the room on sunny days, and there were plenty of opaque-shaded lamps to create hard-edged pools of light at night. I wish I still had that room.

Of course, while I was painting it, all the naysayers warned me that the room would be depressing--as if I didn't know perfectly well what I was doing--but when it was all done, they loved it, not that that made any difference to me. Anyway, the upside of the coming glut of black-walled rooms is that the simple laws of probablility ensure that at least some of them will be good-looking, as the one at the top certainly proves. my bedroom is small, it's midnight black, and if i do say so myself, it's gorgeous. I looooove its cave like feel. It's glam and sexy and it's neither too masculine or feminine. My linens are shades of grey, grey and white stripe, grey & white floral print and I have some beautiful silky curtains to keep it from feeling too "hard".

Dramatic! And surprisingly cozy. I feel like it would be ultra relaxing in there.

I like it, I would do it.

We just painted our room Almost Black (Benjamin Moore) and I love it. I haven't finished it out, so there aren't pictures anywhere, but it makes it dark and cozy and it's easier to sleep. We do have large windows so during the day there is lots of natural light. Without the natural light I don't think we would have done it.

3 years ago I painted a large wall in the living/dining room black. I love it so much that when our new house is built, black will definately take centre stage.

Our living/dining is a charcoal gray and we love it. We weren't nearly as courageous. We left the ceiling and trim white. But what surprised us most was the reaction of our friends. We expected 'ugh's and 'what were you thinking's. But almost everyone comments on how relaxing the space is and how much bigger the place looks.
