Look!: Chalkboard Painted Door

When we moved into our current place two years ago we knew that we wanted a chalkboard in the kitchen to work as a central message board/grocery list/etc for our home. Lack of wall space prevented us from being able to hang one anywhere, so we broke out the chalkboard paint, painted the door to the utility closet, and have been leaving notes ever since.

It required a few thin coats of paint and some drying time - one of the easiest projects for the impact we've ever done. We bought a quart and had enough left over to have painted every door in the house if we wanted, so this is a good project to go in on with friends if you can.

I love it! A entire chalkboard wall would be great for a child's bedroom.

Great! But where do you keep the chalk? I was thinking of tying it to a string or a small ledge would keep it handy.

We painted the door of a food pantry with chalkboard paint a couple of weeks ago. The door is same style as the photo, and we painted same area of the door. It is fun and functional now; I don't need to stick post-its on the refrigerator's door anymore.

You can't really see it in the photo, but directly to the right of this door is our fridge - we keep the chalk in a small bowl on top of it (although we have experimented with tying a piece of chalk to a string attached to the door in the past.)

I always wonder about using a chalk board as a grocery list....do you then have to re-write your list onto paper, to take to the store? I mean it looks cool but...not really practical. Not for a grocery list anyway.

I have a chalk board wall in my kitchen. I tied the chalk with a string of kitchen twine. But then, the cats found it. Chalk in atleast 3 pieces. Cats one - chalk on a string zero. Just sorry I missed the play.

my boyfriend and i have a chalkboard painted board on one of the walls in our kitchen. we record our grocery list, and then he snaps a picture of it with his iphone. problem solved!

my new place has god-awful veneer "wood" paneling up to waist height in the kitchen . I think I'm going to paint the horizontal strip of it that separates the paneling from the normal wall with chalk board paint... writing space all around the room!

I painted my backsplash with chalkboard paint this past weekend. It looks amazing and is safe to wipe with water, so spray from the sink is not an issue. I like it mainly for the contrast with my white cabinets, and the way the wires of my countertop appliances disappear, but it will be great for my boyfriend and I (and our guests) to write silly messages, draw, erase, and redo at will.

I just realized that today's the first day the can says I'm allowed to use chalk on it, and I totally forgot. FAIL.

All these chalkboard posts are fantastic. Such great uses and yet I will never have one because I have the world's worst penmanship and cannot draw to save my life. I will find happiness in the nice script and artistic availability in others while quelling my own internal jealousy.
