Look! Clam Shell Dog Bowl

This idea struck me as just too adorable and clever not to share. It's from the Bali home of architect and designer Stuart Membery, posted by Anna Spiro on Absolutely Beautiful Things. Using a gorgeous, basically indestructible sea shell as a dog bowl: this is just the kind of breezy but sophisticated style I adore.

The clam shell dog bowl is such a great idea for a vacation home, or any home with an outdoor deck where pets like to sun themselves. Just the thought of it lifts my heart right out of this gray and rainy weather.

It's fun to think of other dog bowl alternative options. The criteria for the vessel are pretty specific: it must be water-tight, of course, and heavy enough (or low enough) so it can't be knocked over, and basically unbreakable (unless you've got a small or super-calm dog). I'm thinking of these enamel bowls I brought back from China! What do you think? Any ideas for a stylish dog bowl alternative?

You can see more photos of Stuart Membery's home throughout the week on Anna's blog, Absolutely Beautiful Things. Or check out Stuart's own portfolio on his site.
