We're familiar with the idea that the backs of things sometimes need to be just as presentable as the front, especially when we're talking about room dividers in an open floor plan. However, we'd not seen the concept applied in quite this way before — to standing picture frames.
These standing frames are arranged on a low wall between the bedroom and stairwell, so the backs are the first thing one would see as you mount the stairs. The stands themselves look like a modification attached to Ikea NYTTJA frames, and the backs have been painted in accent colors.
The pictures on the other side, however, remain a mystery!

Why not just put another picture on the back?
This is a great idea. I currently have this problem with the frames in our entryway and either colors or pics on the back of the frames is a vast improvement to what we have now!
I hope those frames don't fall, ahhh!
I suppose you can have pictures of faces in the front and then pictures of the back of heads on the back.
But I would alternate so that when you are looking from the front, you are seeing some faces and some backs of heads.
