We passed by this fire station yesterday and noticed that in place of the big fire truck doors, it has windows. A tidy garbage organization bin is out front. The building is beautifully landscaped and we spotted window treatments. Is this possibly a fire station that's been converted into a residence?..
Sure enough, turns out Fire Station 28 in Montreal was converted to residential use back in 1979. It's a beautiful building that faces Mont Royal. You can't see it in our shot up top, but check out the beautiful red-painted front door, a perfect nod to the building's previous life:

this is one of my dreams: to live in a converted barn or mill or firehouse or what have you.
me too. or a converted church or synagogue or whatever.
i've seen many of them and omg i want one!
i want i water tower. because i love the idea of living in a house that is round and used to be filled with water!
I agree - I would love to live in a converted building of some sort!
Maybe AT could request a House Tour of this building? That would be interesting to see.
AT should do a tour of converted houses altogether! Synagogues, lighthouses, silos, barns, factories, fishing boats, horse and buggy garages, the list goes on and on.
I LOVE converted buildings -- the ultimate recycling! Would love to live in one, especially an old church.
I second Myshkin -- we need a house tour of this old fire station.
I'm with all you guys...and I had the opportunity to produce a show for HGTV called reZONED where we saw what people did with spaces like firehouses, churches, barns... and even an old missile silo! I got so many great decorating ideas from all these creative folks. ( http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/episode_archive/0,1783,HGTV_23556_542,00.html ). I'm not sure if the show is still running, but it could give you great decorating ideas if it is. I always thought I wanted to buy a place like this, until I saw the hard work that went into converting them. Wow! I have a lot of admiration for the people who do it!
I would also LOVE to live in and renovate a former fire station. I once had the opportunity to buy one several years ago, but it was too far from my job for a reasonable commute. Maybe one day.
