Look!: Cozy Corner Office Nook

We like cozy office spaces that invite you in and Dora's nook does just that. Teeny but effective, small but still communicates style and personality...

Dora has everything she needs at her fingertips. Looking up to the left, she has a wall filing system that is supported with white shelving. Taking her projects off the desk top results in a clean look and extra space when working. Instead of going for a sleek, clear magazine holder, Dora opted for the milky white color which lends to her homey vibe. By simply taking a white IKEA chair, she adds warmth by stacking a powder blue pillow on top to match the soft color palette. Office supplies are corralled in mugs and a pop of pink in a ceramic pitcher. We love how Dora has edited her office space to just the basics--essential in keeping a small office clutter-free.

Mlle Kate: I think that's a Designers Guild organizer. I used to have one -- purchased for $4.99 at TJ Maxx. You can get them on the DG site, but eBay is usually cheaper.

It looks great, but it's in no way an "office" unless by "office" you mean a space where you can do domestic bills once a month.

I wish AT would stop calling beautiful little home work desks "offices". I'd think that to be an office, you'd at least need, oh, say, a phone (if not a printer).

The only thing I don't like about this, is that it's not mine! Great!

I love the colour combination and the decor... that would definitely not be enough space for me, but I like it!

It's not an office if it's a space barely large enough for a laptop. An office involves a phone, usually a desktop computer, a printer, etc. Though I would love this for our laptop computer - would be sweet.

So this should be renames "Look! Cozy Corner Workspace" or something.

Maybe she has a wireless printer somewhere else and a cordless phone. Not everyone needs 2000 sf to be able to work. Sheesh!

I worked from home for over a year with a desk not much bigger than this in my office a laptop vs. a desktop, no printer, and although I had a phone I hardly used it. It's an office if you want to call it an office. It can be very minimalist depending on the type of work you do.

Lovely corner. Sitting by a window when you work males a big difference. I'm surprised (genuinely, not snarkily) how many people think they need a phone and a printer in their "office". My home office consists of a laptop, an iphone and a couple of memory sticks, and I don't feel like adding anything.

i think bromelia is under the impression that a large desk space means you are actually doing something.

to answer some of you who wondered if that desktop is custom made, I am afraid it is; well, it was made by my husband... he claims it was very easy to make... if you have the right tools or in his case, some willpower to help you not to loose the plot on the first hurdle because of lack of the right tools!!!
anyway, that was the only option available because the space was at premium, the whole "flat" was only 12 square meters (bathroom excluded)!!!
we moved since then, but even now, where space is not that tight, I have the office area not much bigger than that in the old little one...

definitely want to do this in my home.

Its a great use of the space she has. And, this is 2009, right - so that fax machines are no longer necessary and there are such things as wireless printers (which I have and stored in my closet) exist. Or am I stuck in a logan's run sequence?

My desk space at home is 4 feet by 2 feet - so that's like what, 8 sq feet. It does have a few additional shelves so it's like four feet tall too. It houses my desktop computer, a cordless phone, our cable modem, the wireless router, keyboard and mouse, my photo printer, the dock for my digital camera, the dock for my cell phone, etc. Along with a cup of pens, a small quote-a-day calendar, and a few knick-knacks. My fiance has a desk very similar to this: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=9854980 and it probably takes up almost the same amount of space as the one in the photo but it has more storage so he can house his desktop computer, his digital camera dock, his cell phone dock, his printer, another phone, etc. That probably takes up about 9 sq feet or so.

Mine is in the living room while his in the spare room - goes to show you we have almost every essential of an office but without needing an entire room.
