I love when a city inspires amazing creativity and ingenuity of advertising and business signage. While the friendly nature of folks around here might make you think you're in a small town, one of the things that strikes me as so utterly urban about Austin are the incredible things businesses do to catch potential customer's attentions!
With so much competition, businesses here have to stand out or they will surely risk failing. That fact, combined with Austin's penchant for the wacky and weird, has bred a creative and fun pack of business signs here in Austin. From gyms, restaurants, retail stores--even an airstream cupcake stand--- Austin residents have no short amount of fun signs to look at. I bring you a few to ponder on today:
I know these businesses certainly make me notice them but do these signs catch your attention and make you want to patronize the business? Or is it a bit on the tacky side? Do you have a favorite business attraction that I didn't mention?

I love, love, love Hey Cupcake! It is the perfect combination of sugar and kitsch. If you're ever strolling down SoCo (South Congress Ave) you must stop. However, be prepared to wait in line if you go during lunchtime -- totally worth it!

This makes me so sad. I moved from Austin three years ago and I am still not over it! Taken out of context the signs can be tacky, but in Austin, they're just keeping it weird.

Hyde Park Grill used to change what was on the fork all the time (maybe once a month?) back when I was a kid. It was on the way to my elementary school and was always a happy little surprise: big purple eggplant, tomato, carrot, cake, etc.
Can we talk about more home design and less OMG Austin is SO QUIRKY posts? Nothing against you specifically, Laure, but I'm really getting Quirky!Austin fatigue here.
