Downtown Kansas City has been having some major renovations. Buildings and streets have been receiving makeovers and it's been spotted that the bridges have received a little bit of special attention as well.
Check out the ends of each sidewalk at either end of the bridge. The street names have been cut into large pieces of steel with a water jet. Although the act is small it makes a great impact on the area! Jump below to see it close up.
The bridges are the gateway into Kansas City's new Power and Light District. Such a small detail makes a great transition into a new part of town.

I'm so excited to not only see a Kansas City blogger on AT, but to see the amazing architecture and inspiration that Downtown KC can offer! I love the new Power and Light District and hope to take some photographs in the area to display in my apartment. Thanks for this post!
I was always impressed that KCMO made an effort to make the bridges different than the standard concrete overpass. Every time I look at the ugly bridge by my house I remember the colorful (although not always my style) briges in kansas city. At least they're trying!
I'm also glad to see some new development in the downtown area. I only twice went downtown the year I lived there (my work/apt was in Westport) and it seemed kind of sad and lifeless.
The overpasses are interesting. They were in Metropolis a couple of months back, with the designer talking about how they knit the city back together. While I wouldn't go that far, they're better than nothing. The best one is the illuminated one on the east side of Bartle Hall.
I'd love to see more KC on AT. Very quietly, over the last few years, a strong design community has taken root. The Steven Holl building brought some national attnetion, but there's a lot more than that going on!
It seems like KC is having a bit of a culinary revolution these days.

You should post the bridge in Lenexa, where I-35 meets 87th street. The structural architecture and color-changing light display stand out in comparison to the surrounding area, but it's interesting!
