Using Drawer Liners as Rug Mats

Unless you like slipping and sliding around, most thin rugs require rug mats to keep you and your kids steady on your feet. One price-comparing mom had a simple idea to use cheaper drawer liners in place of rug mats.

KelsyC of Jill of All Trades bought some rugs at Target and noticed that it was cheaper to buy non-slip drawer liners ($3.99 for an 18" x 60" piece) compared to a non-slip mat ($2.99 for an 18" x 30" piece).

So maybe not a huge, huge savings, but every bit helps. And if you're like us, you may have some drawer liners in your closet that never made it into your drawers so using them under a small rug may be just the ticket.

I put these under the cushions of our couch, too. They were always sliding forward and this totally solved the problem!

I didn't even know (until I was in my thirties) that "rug mats" were anything but drawer liners. That thrifty mom of mine had me fooled. I thank her every day for her creative and fun $-saving ways.

they're the exact same thing in different sizes.

I've been using it under our runner for years! It does help to keep it in place.

we have an vintage highchair and its all wood and my daughter has a tough time not slouching down in her chair since the bottom is so slick. so she sits on a piece of that liner and its a perfect solution! its not the most "stylish" looking solution but it works really well!

We have one under our bathmat. It raises it just enough that it dries faster, and feels so nice and cushy underfoot!

Thank you guys for the great idea. I picked up some drawer liners at our local dollar store and will use it under our hall and bathroom rugs.

I wonder if they are really ALWAYS the same thing? Earlier this winter I bought an actual rug mat from Target and it off gassed something terrible. Just recently we got a new rug for downstairs, and I bought a natural latex piece that was advertised as being for drawers or rugs from a different store. No off gassing.

My point here? If the drawer liners are natural latex and don't off gas like the rug mats, they might not only be more affordable, but better for you too!
