i like the idea of the nursery, but it just turned out messy and weird in my opinion

I think it would be more authentic if the child had done the drawings, not the parents. My vote is messy and weird.

I like it. There is still a lot of white space so it doesn't appear too cluttered to me. YMMV. I wonder if they plan on letting their child add to the mix and if they will control what materials can be used on it.

I like it. I find it fresh and fun, and even though the kids didn't do it, authentic (a welcome break from the traditional borders or murals). The bold simplicity of the other objects in the room keep it from looking too scattered; it is tough to pull something like this off.

I think I could handle a wall or, even better, a large canvas hung on a wall. But the way this has been done seems haphazard to me and would drive me nuts.

Not something I'd do, although I celebrate the impulse. Looks okay if you don't know a kid didn't do it, but when I learned that the parents did this for an infant's nursery, it just started to look eerie. If they raise a famous artist I'll recant.

It makes a cute photo, but I wouldn't want to live with it . . .

i thought about doing something like that too (when i have have children of my own, that is). however, i would contain it only to one wall and i would also let the kids "design" the way on their own. another change is that i'd tape up blocks of butcher or drawing paper on the wall instead of doing it directly on the painted walls.

I also thought about doing something like this, but like mei, it was a bit more controlled: I thought of doing an underwater mural on one wall that I start, with the main background and some fish/nautical creatures, and then let dc add to it on special occasions: as a treat, on a holiday, etc. I thought it would make for a fun timeline of creative progress...

still might do it one day, but right now, we like our room orange.

I was completely in awe of it when I read the article on Cookie. The whole house that was featured was so original and inspiring. Instead of the perfectly framed photos and the pretty toys and decoration we ( as parents) usually create for ourselves - uhhumm, i mean our child - the owners made their son's nursery one that encourages a child's imagination. The drawings are naive and in a style only a child would understand. There are lots of white space for the child to add to the "mural" as he grows older.

For those who prefer a little bit of order in their home, you should check out the rest of the house. AWWWEsome!
