For this stairway to cat heaven, a couple created a series of perches with regular old hardware shelves, brackets and Flor tiles. As seen on Moderncat.
It's an idea we'd been kicking around for a while, but Moderncat readers proved it's easy and livable. Smaller or more decorative brackets could be interesting choices, too.
While any of the Flor Tiles would attract cats and their claws, ours would probably prefer the following for touch, if not aesthetics: Counting Sheep or On The Lamb since felines have a magnetic attraction to wool—in winter, our sweaters prove it. Or Coir2 for its scratching pad-esque texture.
And of course, you can switch out texture as wear and visual wear-out dictate.

Do ya'll think it's about time to have a separate blog just for pet owners? I think apartment therapy is getting bogged down with "look at my cute pet" articles.
That's what happends when it is pet month.
there a moving square top left corner that says, "pet design month - all september".
Every dog (er, cat) has it's day Plain Jane.

those ugly L brackets really ruin the decor. should have invested in some clean floating shelves.
Love the idea, but as jeffnyc mentioned, the brackets are a bit distracting. But I bet the cat has no such complaints :)
painting the backets white could help them disappear... but the chrome is industrial and cool with the cement.
