We spotted this over the weekend in the West Village and thought it was an ingenious way of dressing up a rather cold and uncomfortable folding chair - a little DIY touch that could be copied for home use. The scarf is simply folded and hung like a towel on a rack through the back of the chair. The bright color gives it extra pop!, and you can see a further view below...

I do this at home with a small blanker. But I do it so my chair won't scuff the wall.
dont know about the chairs, but when I was visiting Sweden many of the outdoor cafes had small blankets (instead of space heaters) draped over the chairs. my friend told me this is very common there.

hmm yes I agree with bepsf - can't imagine them not being all stolen by the end of the day.
The scarves seem kinda useless if since they're left out to become cold too.
In Amsterdam, in the colder months, all the outdoor seating has scarves or small blankets that the customers are welcome to use to keep warm.
I did this in my dining room with some spare plaid scarves. Not only is it colorful, they're also handy when I'm on my way out!
Do they have to run and take them in when it rains? Seems impractical to me.
Just returned from Hamburg and the cafes there all provide blankets for sitting at the tables outside
Most Scandinavian countries and plenty of European countries offer blankets for outdoor dining in the colder months. I think this is a nice adaption of this, and far more appealing than the "chair runners" shown in the link posted by K T G .
Somehow sitting outside with a blanket swaddled around me, eating dinner, doesn't seem all that appealing. Maybe a cup of coffee, but dinner?
Hi-I recognize this spot; it is actually a cigar bar, not a restaurant. I imagine there are people interested in sitting outside for a smoke for a few minutes.
