personally, i'm so overwhelmed with all there is to look at in this city-- not to mention graffiti everywhere-- that i really take notice of homes that are simple, well-dressed, and clean.

i like that sculpture, but the picture idea is a little cheesy.

Ha, this reminds me of a ground-floor apartment in which I lived as a kid. We had a bay window in the front room, and I devised a rotating, weekly display in it. It involved some kind of pedestal/stage between the window and the curtains. I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but I did put up promotional flyers for it in the local laundromat, pizzeria, and grocery store.

So, to answer the question, yes.

i have a black cat decal there i thought would look good all year round instead of just halloween and i also have a mask from New Orleans.

i guess its the perfect way to personalize your view for the neighbors and put up stuff you have no other place for!

The last place I would ever spend my budget. Silly in my opinion.

I have a stained glass hanging in a window where the curtain rarely gets raised high enough to see it, but you can see it from outside...So I guess yes to that question, it functions in the same way. Plus I like the way the stained glass looks reflecting onto the curtain.
Maybe these people sometimes do open that curtain? Maybe there's also something painted on their side.

I like it, but I do love window displays. I just wouldn't want to put anything too valuable because the sun will eventually fade it badly.

My kitchen window used to face (across an alley) the national headquarters of a major political party that I do not support. Let's just say that I - and they - had some good-natured fun with each other through our window displays during the 1996 presidential election season....

The people across from me have giant light up red lips in their window. Used to have a scantily clad mannequin too.

The people in the building next door put their Christmas tree near the window; our apartments are in the rear of our respective buildings so the only people who see their tree are me, the guy upstairs and the lady downstairs. But I like that they do it. Maybe it's because the apartments are kind of close together but it is nice.

my cat is the only piece of window art that we need.

I'm a houseplant person so naturally that's my big thing for nice-sized windows. It's a nice statement for both sides and if it freshens the air I think of that as a plus.

Row houses in South Philly, all have little displays going on in their front windows... knick knack type stuff

Since many of the units in our building have non-opening transoms over either the front door or patio door, a lot of tenants do elaborate transom displays that seem to "read" better from outside than from inside. We may be the exception in not having one, but there's nothing I really want to put there.

The subject riffs amusingly pm the days of the row house, living room picture window in which families displayed tacky, ornate lamps and tchatchkes in order to demonstrate that they only lived there due to cosmic accident. This new manifestation is more on the order of fun. It seems youthful to me.

every once in awhile i like to turn one of my speakers to face out at the window and share my music listenings with the world. not to worry, it's very subtle amidst the street sounds.
