Gliders aren't the most aesthetically beautiful pieces of furniture, but Lori made this one quite irresistible when she recovered it and the matching ottoman with this great Marimekko fabric.

The orange color really works well with the natural wood, and this piece would be right at home in the modern nursery.

beautiful! looooove that fabric!
That's gorgeous! Doing something like that to my functional-but-dull glider has been on my to-do list for...uh...so long that the idea should probably just be discarded.
On the topic of gliders - has anyone found a way to make the ottoman non-gliding so mobile babies don't pinch their fingers between the slats? My glider has a brake for the chair but not for the ottoman, so I've tried to use cable ties to immobilize it. It sort-of works, but I wonder if I'm missing some brilliant, simple solution?
Wow. Marimekko, what can't you do?
I've never met a glider I liked, until now!
The glider looks great, but the fabric is actually from Ikea. It comes in a number of colourways, including blue and white, orange and white and the red and white shown here.
Ikea? Even better! I have to remember to check out their fabric selection next time I'm there. Usually by the time we get to that department, I'm already worn out.
I just checked the Ikea website and it looks like they don't carry it anymore. It was great though -- a good canvas in multiple colors and two sizes (the photo shows the larger-scale print). And so cheap! Maybe your Ikea will still have it in stock, TammyE -- totally worth checking.
Ikea fabric is totally amazing. Upholstery weight for under $10/yard! And check their curtain stock, too: often very nice designs, and they stock them extra long, so you get about 9 yards of fabric.
But if you see something you like, buy it, because they often change patterns every year.
What kind of glider is that? My wife and I are looking for one (on a budget) and can't really find any that tickle our fancy. Any suggestions on unique, interesting, and most importantly, comfortable?
Yep, definitely Ikea fabric. I bought it in white/blue a few years ago and just made curtains for the nursery from it!
