These beautiful glossy white floors come to us through a house tour we did of our friends', Pete & Sandy, farmhouse. We love the floors because they preserve the subtle texture and feeling of the original wide pine boards while giving the rooms a clean, modern look...

Pairing the crisp, clean floors with deep rich wall color and adding a pop of blue in the bed frames makes for a soothing guest bedroom. These floors also help brighten the upstairs of the farmhouse by reflecting light from the windows up towards the ceiling — opening up a space with very low ceilings.
Sandy painted their master bedroom with the reverse color scheme for the walls and trim but was much happier with the results in this room. Check out the rest of their house tour and tell us what you think...

love the floors. we are about to have all the hardwood in our house painted out white (against the advise of pretty much everyone!). But when it looks this good, it's hard to resist.
I have major wood floor envy (wall to wall carpet in my apartment) so I can't image ever painting over wood floors. But, I do think this looks great. Goes to show that if you just follow your instincts, rather than what is 'in' right now, you'll end up with a beautiful result.
I had original pine wood floors in an apartment and they were GORGEOUS. I am a proponent of painting most things that others would be horrified about--brick, wood furniture, most 'regular' hardwood floors. But what they covered up was probably much more striking than the white floors they ended up with.
Any suggestions on what paint & techniques to use to paint out hardwood?
I did my kitchen floors, used Ace Hardware's floor/deck paint in "warm scones" and I love it. A friend of mine who is a decorative painter suggested watered down Windex and a damp mop for cleaning - works perfect. I have no regrets.
Interesting... We have wood floors under some TERRIBLE carpet. Too bad for us who ever refinished the walls got knock down (gross) all over the wood floors... Hmmmm. These look great. I may have to do some more thinking about how to refinish!
their home is so tastefully done, inside and out!
LOVE that moose!!!!
i have painted ugly, not antique floors forest green and liked it, never would have thought of doing them in white but these look beautiful. also like the antique wood ones, anything but my wall to wall (apt.) .
I'm so not into painting wood floors unless they're in irretrievably bad condition :-(.
for our floors, this is the last refinishing they'll endure so we might as well have fun with it. our inspiration came from Sixx Design's farmhouse featured in Living Etc. a year ago.
My floors are painted a pale grey. It's not glossy but it's great. The original wood was too many tones (from too many repairs.) Refinishing the wood would have cost too mush so we painted. Love it. Thinking of doing 2nd and 3rd floors in more fun colors.
i could only paint a floor that is beyond repair, but it does look nice.
(i am a little scared of the amount of pillows on the bed, though ...)
Beautiful! I've done white duvets before, and they don't last long, even in a guest room. I do like the simplicity, though.
Beautiful house. I love the simplicity. A recommendation to make rooms feel warm and brighter, would be to stay away from colors with blue undertones. Blue tends to absorb daylight.
