So step outside your house tomorrow morning and check if you find any of these markings made in front of your home. Like hobos of yesteryear (or the geeky looking for free wi-fi spots), the drawings above supposedly communicate to fellow trick-or-treaters the homes that have the prime grade candies compared to those who give out dried fruit or have big, mean dogs awaiting...
From Cockeyed's Halloween Candy Code: Growing up in the Bowling Green neighborhood of Sacramento, I was taught how to read and mark houses with the Halloween Candy Code. For kids with an early curfew these codes were invaluable. Once we tagged a house, our peers could use our marks to reap the best full-size chocolate bars while avoiding Chex mix and dried apricots.
Our favourite (fake one): "Out of Candy, now giving out sauce packets from Taco Bell"

mmmmmm. I think they are all fake. But maybe it's a West Coast thing.
I gave out Snickers, M&Ms, Peanut M&Ms, KitKats and Reeses Peanut Butter Cups. I got lots of compliments from the kids for letting them have more than one piece each! What's Halloween without a grocery bag full of candy that's bad for you? We always tried to make it last until Christmas.
We had kids for 2 hours - we had a huge bowl of lollies - my daughter dressed up and handed them out - she loved it. Pretty good for an Aussie Halloween.
We had 2 teenagers, that's Switzerland for you.
Lots of leftovers for us alas (quite good chocolate).
Our own kids visited 3 expat houses, and got a nice stash.
Not a single munchkin rang our bell, I was pretty disappointed.
So for the big dogs waiting, is that a frankfurter on the grill, or a big steaming turd?
thanks for the laugh btoddster! I think that one is indicating the house in question is a stinker and you should skip it, but that's just my interp.
I got a bunch of kids this year. This was my first halloween with trick or treators. I've always lived in apartments where no one ever came. BF teased me because I was so excited that we had any come to the door!
This is FAKE FAKE FAKE. I demand a retraction of this posting.
Someone's been watching a lot of "Mad Men".
Yeah, they all look fake to me. But funny. Fondue?? LOL
Of course it's fake! That's why it's so funny!
We got a big bag of candy, put signs up (on our door, and even ones to lead people to our door), and waited.
Not one the whole evening. :(
