The dining room is, hands down, our favorite room in the house. We can pore for hours over photos of the formal eating space, and tables, chairs, serving ware, centerpieces, et cetera. That's why we were pleasantly surprised to see something new in the usual setup.
A hanging plant takes the place of a pendant lamp in this dining space, which has the benefit of being located in a bay of big, sunny windows. Though we have to wonder where the light comes from at night, it's still beautiful, and unique.

No, it is not beautiful or unique, I think hanging plants have been around for a while. It looks kind of out of place...like there should be an actual chandelier hanging there but for some reason there was a plant hanging around and someone put it up.

i like the idea, however i don't think the plant in the photo is dramatic enough. perhaps when it grows out it will be long enough to read as a chandelier-like object. i'm also thrown off by the plant on the table - a really great abstract table lamp would be a nice twist, a play on the lamp and plant swapping spaces.
Agreed, K T G, but I guess I can empathize with having to fill a quota of domestic epiphanies for AT, day in and day out. Out of desperation, you sometimes construct your epiphany like a delicate house of cards...
Aside from the silly "hook" of this AT post, I have to say that I really enjoyed this sneak peek on D*S this morning. It's a beautiful home.
From the Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

Etymology: French, from Old French, candle holder, modification of Latin candelabrum
Date: 1736
: a branched often ornate lighting fixture suspended from a ceiling
...I guess it's better than posting "LOOK! Hanging Plant over Dining Table!"
Of course, AT could just repost Design Sponge's entries.
And while I like a nice fern bar, this plant is too small, hung too high, and when you water it, does it drip on your head?
But, it's more enjoyable to come here and check out recycled posts that read like something from The Onion!
Man, why is everyone so agitated today?
What they really need is a plamp.
madsarah! That's a great idea! Or maybe a forum, where we can just talk among ourselves and ignore the official AT hamsters.
"Look! Light fixture as hanging plant!"
Very 60's.
