This ranks high on our list of successful Ikeahacks--maybe because it was featured in Living Etc. and styled beautifully? Or maybe because we happened to buy that exact kitchen island at Ikea and it's pretty cool to see it in a new way? Regardless, we're loving this mix of high and low to create a very effective bathroom solution.
The wood base is painted with a few coats of white, and the boxes on the lower shelf were actually pine boxes painted in a matching white bought at a crafts store. Ikea doesn't make this exact kitchen island anymore, but they do have a kitchen cart that is similar called Förhöja.

It looks like the Norden occaisional table ($199US) painted white:

It would work in a front hall, too. The bottom shelf could be for boots, with perhaps a newspaper/magazine recycling basket as well.
I really like that for the bathroom. I don't care for the standard sink/vanity with the dark space underneath. I like the towels rolled on the shelf.
Front hall with a mirror above. Nice.
What is that tile? It's so beautiful.
Cassis the tile looks like it could be Anne Saks but for less here is a source I have used- http://mosaic-tiles.cooltiles.com/cgi-bin/cooltiles.pl?cat=Glass-Tiles&colors=Cream
ilovebutter thanks for posting that bench from Ikea I am looking for something for my hallway that might be the right piece painted white, I like the mirror idea too.
So the pipes go through the drawers, which don't open? Is there more info?
I have the same pipe question as above.
probably they cut out a slot through the bottom and back of the drawer, to allow the drawer to slip past the waste plumbing.
some other companies manufacture sink vanities that have drawers; durvit for example makes one with a sideless & backless drawer, to solve the same problem.

i just love the colors- i think neutrals and pearl in the bathroom is so calming. makes me think of the beach- wanna dive right in
cassis - i think that tile is actually from an Italian company called SICIS
www.sicis.com - and I believe it's in their "iridium" line.
everything about this i like.
that tile is exquisite, and makes the room...
Since it is a UK magazine source, I would hazard a guess that the tile might be from Fired Earth, which has a glass mosaic line which is similarly irregular and hand-cut.

Would be nice to know for sure though.
Thank you, Lori, atlantadesigner, and monika.
it's true, I used SICIS too for my kitchen and it's absolutely marvellous! They have so many colors available... it's hard to choose. www.sicis.com
