Sometimes the simplest hacks can have the greatest results.
Take this re-do of the IKEA Kura bed. Luke disliked the blue panels at the end, so he applied a little ingenuity to bring a fun trend into his daughter's room.
See the "after" photo below the jump.
He simply flipped the panels over so the back side was facing out, and used some aerosol chalkboard paint to create a blackboard. We could also see taking this idea in a slightly different direction by using fabric or wallpaper instead of paint. Either way, we're kind of wishing the Kura was available in queen size.

I love this! I wish my girls were old enough for me to get them a loft bed. Maybe I can implement the idea on a lower bed. Hmmm...
What did he do with the blue panel down the length of the bed? Can't really tell from the picture, but it's not the blue.
Great idea! I've been eyeing that bed for my girls but I have to trek a long way to an IKEA. I knew I would paint it but I like the chalkboard idea too (I'd make the homemade chalkboard paint so it can be something other than black or green)--or even using that white board paint or magnetic paint might be nice.
Very clever.
Haha, that was totally my plan for my son's bed, except they didn't have them in stock forever so I got him another one (Vikare painted white) that I ended up liking better I think. I was going to paint over the blue with magnetic and chalkboard paint.
Sar3j, you can configure this bed with the mattress on the bottom, and you'd still have the same end-panels.
this really is a pretty good bed for the price. we bought it for our 5 year old after her former (hand me down) ikea bed broke for the last time. since we bought it so late, we'll probably only get a couple of years out of it but she does adore her new "bunk bed" and the little fortress we've created underneath it.
I really wish we had painted it before we assembled it because this thing was a bear to put together. instead, we painted the room a soft grey/purple that really coordinates well the blue panels.
