DWR's new Tools for Living store isn't open until Friday, but Apartment Therapy got a peek inside this afternoon. We were blown away. It's full of perfect, well-made, long-studied, classic, utilitarian objects that you will be so excited to find and probably more excited to own.

DWR's buyers canvassed the world to find these objects and must have had a great time doing it. It's not about large pieces of furniture and delayed gratification. This is about little things that you can buy, take home, and start using immediately.
So far, the store is divided into sections including Work (office), Future People (kids), Kitchen (cooking, storage), and Outdoors (camping, shooting, recreation). And every few months, the store will be infused with dozens of new items!
Every object in the store has a purpose. While each item is beautiful in its own right, none are meant to be purely decorative. This, and the fact that there are so many unique pieces, makes this store a must-see.

This store is going to do really well....
OH please. They have a "pine bookend" for $150 for the pair. It's a 4x4, 10" long. You have got to be clueless to buy a dollars worth of lumber for $150. There was a leather Klein tool bag that was interesting for $200, but the retail is like $80 everywhere else.
are they selling those accordion style book holder on the top picture, or is it just for show? Anyone know where else i could find something like that?
The store is beautiful, but I have to agree with ENTENZA. DWR is really just for stupid rich people, or stupid going broke trying to look like they've got money and style people. Why else would you pay more for such simple things. I feel sorry for the person who spends $300 for DWR's Kay Bojosen Elephant, that I paid $175 at NOVA68. I love to recieve the catologue, but I'd never buy from them. Those pine bookends, come on, are they kidding?
In this economy, I think this store is doomed.
@jmorey-- you can get that accordion style "book holder" at staples. It is standard office supply for law offices.
this store will do well if they do not over price this cool stuff like they do in almost any gift store in any modern art museum! DRW is not known for good price points though!

Oh remember Sharper Image. I use to buy their sales items like 75% off or more and we know where they are. I can buy anything that DWR has for a lot less anytime of the year.

i find it quite funny that YOU people live in a city where excess is common and found on every street corner but yet you complain and gripe about the least little thing that may not be in your "reach"! grow up and wish these people well in their endeavours! stop being haters! you don't have to shop there! also.... if you can't afford tfl or dwr there's plenty of other establishments you can haunt!.... wal-mart and
k-mart come to mind!!
I love the direction DWR is going with cool design and cash and carry. It's so much fun to find good design, great products and practical solutions to everyday living.
I'm happy that they are opening these new stores and can't wait to shop at one.
