If you want your kids to help out more in the kitchen, you have to make sure things are safe within their reach. Here's one way to do it...

We found this solution on Flickr. Putting things in drawers that are lower to the ground works and this cupboard does the job with a little class. We know IKEA also puts a lot of drawers for stacking plates, etc in their kitchen design.
Anyone else have a great solution for how you make your kitchen more kid-friendly?

I would love a piece of furniture like that and some deep drawers to store things like sippys in!
Yep, when we re-did our kitchen in IKEA, we used mostly drawers for the below-counter height storage, and one deep drawer is for the kids' stuff. They're very independent in the kitchen because they know where their things are and how to get them.
We pour their milk into a kid-size pitcher (from "For Small Hands" - a Montessori catalog) so they can pour their own milk from the fridge. There are many Montessori-inspired products that are perfect for kids gaining their own independence...and relieving some of the parents' burden too!
