What could have resulted in a tragic loss ended up a heroic rescue thanks to a powerful vacuum cleaner, a sock and a resourceful rescue team...
Firefighters have used a vacuum cleaner with a sock on the end of the nozzle to rescue a six-hour-old kitten which had become trapped down a drain.
The fire crew was called to a house in Dunbar, East Lothian, in the early hours of Monday.

I had a kitten that fell down the heating duct once (before we got grates). We put a towel down and thankfully the cat grabbed onto it with her claws and we were able to pull her out.
I love a happy ending!
awesome story!
i gotta get me that vaccum cleaner!!!
See... now that's the kind of animal-centerd post I like to see.
Too cute.
damn i'm susceptible to kittens!
Awww little ginger kitty cat. What a CUTE story!!
The poor little thing will either run in terror from vacuums or absolutely love them for the rest of its life -- I'm betting it runs in terror.
What a wonderful story. So glad to hear that it ended happily. I'm such a sucker for animal stories.
my cats run in terror from the vaccuum cleaner & have never been sucked into one. poor kitterz.
Gregory - this is obviously a story you concocted to get us all to like vacuuming. You're obviously using your kitten minions as your allies in this fight, but we won't be charmed by their cute helplessness in this case and surrender our loathing of the vacuum. Nice try, though!
;)
AWWWWWW!!
Aw! What a sweet story! I once had a hamster that fell down our heating duct. Thankfully it was summer, so the heat wasn't on! She was fine, but her fur, which had been white, ended up grey.
