Our dogs Lola and Wilbur were the star of the show while we were trying to photograph this coffee table to be listed on Craigslist. They asked for an Eames Lounge Chair for Christmas, but we're not sure it will hold up to their claws (albeit trimmed and buffed). Our Boston Terrier is typically adorning the back of the couch to peer out the window. So our next couch will need to have a square back, as we're not sure we have the heart to break his horrible habbit (he's just so cute!) Oh, I definitely think about my boys, 2 Havanese when I purchase furnishings. I seriously considered a new sofa, wanted luscious leather, lusted after the leather but decided why spend that kind of $ on a dog bed. I now have a custom washable linen slipcover which is more doggy paw friendly.

We have a house full of animals and definitely think about claw-proof upholstery when buying (& barf proof rugs, for that matter.) I got in to a little trouble recently when I purchased a gently used chair. It is my dream chair and is covered in a large weave wool - I wake up in the middle of the night when I hear the cats scratching on ANYTHING.
There have definitely been a lot more "puddy pedi's" around here lately!
I have a leather chesterfield and chair because of my cats, and no rugs. My cats are pukers.

Our beautiful Louis XV sofa is almost always covered up to protect it from our wonderful Scotties, Punch & Judy. We throw an old flokati over the sofa, which keeps everybody happy, everybody but Louis. http://stylenorth.ca/blog/2008/08/house-of-flokati/
we bought a leather couch that would hold up to pug 1 and pug 2's claws... pug 1 has the same habit of sitting on the back of the couch. the couch now has a distressed, lived in look... just what we were going for.
also, all of my throw pillows have removable, washable covers. when i sew new ones i always put in a zipper.
the boys (oscar and henry) are a part of the family. how could i not take them into consideration?

indeed! square cushions next time, my dog does the same. I've been considdering tufting them.
I do try not to spend money on something the evil beasties will ruin immediately, but sometimes (new duvet cover, for instance...) I fail...
Pets are probably in the top three items of consideration when buying any furniture, style, quality, pet!
but I don't understand the no leather for pets thought, my leather sofa is the best, easiest to clean after hair or a mud escape, nail marks moisturize or fade out, and there's never even been anything close to a puncture with cat climbing and dog leaping it is the best.
Yay for bostons. We keep our couch covered with a blanket for our boston. In most cases, we just plan to share every soft piece of furniture with him. I just made a daybed in our office so he'll have a place to recline while we work.
