File this one under "I Can't Believe I Didn't Think of That Myself." We don't consider our tote bag terribly girly... until we see our husband carrying it. And yet it's never occurred to us -- or him, either -- to find a cool courier bag and stock it up with the necessities (diapers, wipes, sadly out-of-date magazine). As Flickr user laplanderson shows, it's easy to create a his 'n' hers (or his 'n' his, or hers 'n' hers, as the case may be) tote system.

My husband always gets compliments on what a great man diaper bag he has. haha.
My son has a small backpack that my husband brings with him when they're out together. I have the Fleurville Luxe in pink. I've gotten so many complements on the Luxe about what a cute purse it is and where I got it...people are shocked when I say it's actually a diaper bag!
We always used an old backpack for my daughter. It worked really well (lots of pockets) and cost next to nothing. But I've never been much of a purse person to begin with.
When my husband's with the baby, he uses the black diaper bag the hospital gave us, which he doesn't mind carrying. I use the regular big purses I have, one of which has lots of pockets, the other doesn't. We had bought a all-the-works diaper bag, but turned out too big and now's sitting somewhere in the closet.
We share a black skip hop bag that mostly lives in the car. We need to share it because my husband never remembers to repack it and he is a SAHD. Generally though we just throw snacks/diaper/toy/book into whatever purse/bag we are carrying.

We use a World Youth Day backpack, scored off eBay. I love the bright colours, and it's small enough to be comfy, big enough to hold the essentials - even though we use cloth.
And there's something funny about putting dirty nappies into it ;)
I am not a bag person - yup there are people in the world that aren't!!! And usually when I go out I slip a nappy (diaper) and a couple of wipes in the glove compartment, but for longer outings even I need a bag.
For years I had a small khaki bag - by Nike and it was brilliant - big enough to hold all the strange things I think are essential: Basically, live entertainment for kids: a trivia book, notebooks, juggling balls and so on.
It was brilliant but so didn't look like your typical nappy bag - oversized, naffy boarding luggage.
A couple of weeks ago I asked one of my kids to hold it while I was checking books at the library and they forgot it there and obviously someone else thought it was quite cool too... Needless to say I am now floundering around without it as nothing seems cool enough for fussy me.

Really? I guess that I never considered sharing a diaper bag with my husband. He has always had his, and I have always had mine. Our oldest is 4 and we have never shared. He always used a messenger bag from Gap and I used a rather large Coach bag which my son calls "Mom's luggage". It is really big, but I love it.
We use a black Skip Hop Duo for both of us. It was really important to me to not have one of those husbands with a girly diaper bag. ;)
He also has a small Baileyworks messenger bag that he uses occasionally.
Is it just me, or does this just seem like twice as much work? My husband never remembers to restock the bag, so instead of one bag to pack, I'd have 2 bags to remember to restock with diapers, wipes, silverware, snacks, etc.
We just have a black gender-neutral bag that goes with baby - from me to my mom to my husband.

We thought about having separate bags but then I realized my husband would never remember to stock his bag, so we bought one unisex-styled bag from Dadgear. It's a great bag, I love the built-in wipes case. If we ever need another bag, we have two black bags that we were given by the hospital and doctor's office, and as we're both techies there are a bunch of laptop & messenger bags around the house. I just ordered myself a Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper clutch for short trips--it's quite girly so it's just for me. They were having a huge online clearance sale and I got it for nearly half off.
I like how the text is inclusive of family constellations other than a set of het parents, but really, do diaper bags need to be gendered for anyone? Can't they just give off a "baby gear" vibe?
OK how 'bout this: While the wife & I have one "main" diaper bag, she has another for certain fashion occasions and I have backpacks that are occasionally used for functional reasons. Knowing that "the" diaper bag would inevitably devolve into having diaper bagS, our solution was to create what we call "The Nucleus." It is medium-sized metal mesh zip pouch that contains about 6 diapers along with wipes, changing cloth etc. plus a smaller mesh pouch in which salves, creams, baby tylenol etc. are kept. Being mesh everything is visible and contents can be confirmed quickly & easily. Attached to the zipper we have a small bottle of alcohol sanitizer, allowing this to be the first / last item used when changing diapers.
This way there is no hassle of keeping multiple bags stocked in parallel. Whoever is leaving with the baby simply needs to put The Nucleus in their bag, checking the diaper count to be sure there's enough for the outing.
Works great so far, although that is with only one baby between us.

Hanks Mom - the black and white bag is from OiOi. It was a very nice shower gift, but my husband immediately deemed it too girly. Instead he picked up the camo bag at an Army/Navy surplus for about $20.
We've never struggled with the two bag issue. We are both "prepped and ready" types so we each tend to have our bags stocked without an issue. When we go out together, occasionally there's a debate about which one to take, and frankly we go with the camo bag more. It's a little softer and more flexible.
