You're going to have the book defenders (DON'T DO ANYTHING CREATIVE WITH A BOOK BESIDES DISPLAY IT ON A BOOKSHELF!!!) all in a frenzy over this.

I think it's lovely.

I always enjoyed their aesthetic -- especially some of their early catalogs -- but was disappointed recently to find out they are owned by Urban Outfitters.

Indeed beautiful! The bibliophile in me winces a bit at the sight of all those pages doing contortionist stunts, but I have to admit the beauty of it.

I work at anthropologie...and let me tell you....we worked on those books every single morning. It took FOREVER. Especially the tiny books hanging. But it looks amazing and it was totally worth it!

I don't consider myself a bibliophile, but I was raised to treat books with a certain level of respect. The pictures made me cringe. Sorry.

and i was raised not to worship false idols. they're just books. i have a stack of babysitters clubs from my childhood that would be of more worth folded up than read.

People are so freaking harsh on here. It's not, in any way, "worshiping false idols" to feel a sense of respect for books and not want to destroy them. Bloody hell, people. Why all the snark? Disgusting.

cherry- what we did is we cut little books...out of the bigger ones...do you know what i mean? With big razor blades we cut smaller guys from the bigger ones, and then we folded each paper diagonally in the same direction, or we would fold each page inside, each book was folded differently. By folding the papers so much it made them into circles. And then we just strung them on string!

i am the display coordinator at the berkeley store where these are hanging and i can tell you a bit about them. all of the books are from the el cerrito recycling center, and none of the books are cut. they are all made from folding each page identically. then we glued the spine to a piece of rope. we will reuse them for holiday display and then we will either donate them to a school or recycle them. hope this helps ease some minds.... i appreciate the kind feedback though!

p.s. not to judge but, does it make people feel better that most of them are super cheesy bodice-ripping romance novels?

The display would make a great decor for a back to school party. I will prepare a mood board.

anthro hands down has the most inventive and creative displays. i was in the store on fri and was amazed how cool this looks. much more dramatic in person. thanks for sharing.

I write super cheesy bodice-ripping novels and I'm totally offended! Kidding. Love the displays. I saw them when I was in Seattle last week and they're even more stunning in person. I was madly trying to figure out how I could steal them and get them through airport security... Well done, as always.

I work at a library and I'm a certified bibliophile...but trust me, there comes a time when a book has lived its life. People constantly drop off books that are falling apart, moldy and water damaged because they can't bear the thought of just throwing them away. Guess what, we can't use them. When we do use them for craft projects people freak out about cutting them up. It drives me nuts. I love this display and will try to use some of our donations to make one!
