On a trip to a raw bar in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, we saw this framed nautical chart and thought, Bingo! The perfect addition to our subtle nautical-influenced décor (which is the classy-not-kitschy type). Finding a nautical chart, however, was not as easy. Here's what we learned...
After extensive searching, we found out that you need to find the chart number you're looking for. First, search the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Nautical Chart Online Viewer. Once we selected the Atlantic Coast, we found many charts of the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River.
If you want one of the Chesapeake Bay as a whole, (including DC) the number is #12280 and you can buy it from American Nautical Services or Nautical Charts Online. Just put the chart number in the product search field.
This process works for any part of the country, if you go to NOAA and search for the body of water near you.
You can then frame it yourself, or NauticalCharts.com will frame a chart for you.
Also, if you're lucky enough to live near a boating or marine supply store, such as West Marine, it will most likely carry charts &mdash and save you shipping (wah wah)!
