We're usually a little too foggy eyed to notice much of anything in the morning, but when we saw this wreath on the door and in the store of our nearby coffee purveyor, we perked up immediately. The look is original and the process of creating your own fairly simple.
Start with a wreath base (usually a sturdy loop of wire), then wrap yarn around the exterior of some styrofoam balls (available at craft stores) of various sizes. Attach both yarn and regular ornament balls to wreath base using thin wire or twisted ornament hooks. The mix of texture is really pretty, as is the use of different colors and styles of yarn (we like the sparkle-y type for this particular project).

I am digging the yarnball wreath. Unfortunately, it's just a matter of time before the anti-Starbucks posts come ranting in.

I too was admiring Starbucks' wreaths this weekend. My office building has a similar one to this, sans yarn.
Yarn is over styro or other ball forms, no doubt. That much yarn would cost a fortune!

I commented on this this past Saturday when we visited Starbucks! I told my husband that it was the first non-live wreath I'd seen that I actually liked!

they would be easy to make and if you don't feel like being crafty, starbucks sells their decorations at the end of the season.

This is very easy to achieve by using styrofoam balls that you paint to color match the yarn you'll use so you don't have to use so much yarn to get that same look. Just make sure your spray paint doesn't dissolve the styrofoam. I just came back from Barcelona and they have the same decorations...
what happens to all the store decorations when the season is over? i've always wondered if they just get tossed or if they are resold somewhere. there must be a million yarn-ball wreaths in starbucks worldwide right now.
I have asked at my local Starbucks, and, depending on the manager, they will sometimes just let me have the decorations once the promotion is over and they're done with it. They don't make any money off of them anyway, and in the end, like most retail places, they just throw the decorations away unless someone wants them. I've never had a problem getting a piece of decoration for free now and then. (this does not apply to coffee or merchandise or anything they sell, just their decor stuff)
I saw this at a Starbucks too. I liked the basket that was filled with these ornaments/balls of yarn better. It still looked Christmasy without trying too hard (and is certainly easier to put together!).
