Heather's Bungalow Kitchen Update

Our kitchen has come a long way in the last two months. We still have a long list of things to do, but the good news is we are now cooking regularly on our $99 South Bend six-burner range (yay, Craigslist!), and have a fully functioning sink (IKEA) and stocked fridge (a Jenn-Air floor sample from Abt). After knocking down a partial wall, pulling up nasty linoleum and tearing out wall tiles, we are thoroughly enjoying the results of our hard work:

Besides the fridge, flooring, and stove, everything else is IKEA. We are very tired of heading out to Schaumburg and dealing with pick-ups and returns, but so far we are really happy with the products: base cabinets, tall standing cabinets with shelves and drawers (serves as our pantry), wall cabinets with black glass fronts, wood countertops and sink.

Here's what is left to do:

  • attach front panel to dishwasher

  • attach side panels to our tall standing IKEA cabinets

  • replace trim around one window

  • replace the window blinds (eventually)

  • finish stripping the spice cabinet door and trim and reattach

  • insert a "grill" in the gap between partial countertop and wall (we needed to keep the space open so the floor heater would not be completely blocked)

  • tile the wall behind the sink/stove/counter (we are thinking about black & white hexagonal tiles in a simple pattern)

  • install a range hood
