We recently had dinner at Rush Street, a new restaurant/bar in downtown Culver City. We spotted a colorful oversized canvas painting of a person sitting on a subway car. (or possibly a train since this place is inspired by Chicago). The large scale canvas really worked in the space, not because the room and wall are large themselves but...
...because large scale artwork can be a great way to create depth of space and a focal point in any space - big or small. You can even use multiple smaller canvas paintings as a series to create a unified piece. Here are some ways people have used large scale canvas artwork in their homes:

I love this look
I'm pretty sure that's a NYC subway car, unless the same cars are used on Chicago trains.
Yes, it looks like a NYC subway car.
Yeah, that's definitely an NYC MTA train. Looks like an F/V if you ask me.
we have a giant painting my gf did in our hallway. i need to get a better shot... http://www.flickr.com/photos/closertotheocean1/2470093307/in/set-72157604915299981/
Yep, definitely NYC train-- my guess is F/V or A/C...
This is an orange line train :-)) FVBD
I LOVE IT! Its Beautiful.
I love giant canvases too, but have found the prices to be restricting.
Do you have a good source or are you the independently-wealthy AT:LA blogger? ;-)
That's not particularly over sized, in the art world. Church's works were much larger--and then there's panorama paintings.
Mr. O - yes, these larger sized canvas prints can be expensive. Some affordable options:
-Personalize your own canvas (http://www.canvaspress.com/photos_on_canvas.html)
-Make your own canvas

As for me, my large canvas is from IKEA. :)
I had to come back and comment again...that thing is soo awesome, I wonder who the artist is? Anyone? Not that I could afford it, lol...
It really isnt just the painting either, it is the exposed wood beams, the wall color and that amber colored light. The setting could not be more perfect. The way the light is hitting the clothing on the people making their black shirts and the black chairs and trim almost look indigo...
Just really cool.
i agree olivia greaaaaattt!! canvas art im gonna call the restaurant and see whats up with dat
Well let me know what you find out... I really want to know who it is. Thanks! ;0)
Those are some great examples of using large canvas prints in a room to really pull it together! It definitely makes sense that "large scale artwork can be a great way to create depth of space and a focal point in any space - big or small." Whether at your home, office, or even a retail space, artwork is definitely a way to give your space some character. Large canvas paintings can be a beautiful addition to any room.
