Is it possible for bread to be adorable? If anything could make us think so, it's this loaf of bread we spied at Perfect Pandas. Actually more like a cross between cake and bread, it involves cocoa, green tea powder, and some pretty nifty dough-origami (dough-rigami?) techniques. Keep reading for photos and the recipe...
Talk about your longtail effect. The original recipe was posted at Perfect Pandas a year and a half ago, but it seems to be making the rounds of the internet circuit yet again. We stumbled across it at The Daily What.

i really, really, really wish it wasn't green. it looks moldy.
Agree with pyjammy. This grosses me out.
I didn't think of mold.
But I am sure instead of green tea you can use blue food coloring or blueberry juice to dye the green section.
My first thought was mold, too. Other than that, it's very cute.
Could go with natural color sources for red or yellow too.
Oh come on! It's adorable. I want panda bread.
I think it's very cute and I don't mind the green.
That's just about the cutest thing ever! I remember seeing it a while back, but forgot about it. Now I pretty much have to make it. Bread? And pandas? Yes, please!

well when i think of pandas i think of green bamboo, their natural habitat, so i see nothing gross or moldy ..whatever...i see a very creative, cute, adorable way of baking, i wish we have more of these creations.
I agree...look at photos of pandas. They're surrounded by GREEN! Hence the use of the tea, methinks!
I so have to make this though.
I think you can use taro, and your panda can be in a purple surround.
That's so cute! A good use for my junior high polymer clay rolling skillz.
Oh this is so cute! It's like Fimo but yummy :-P
Get out of town! That is awesome. Can't wait to try it.
I made it! So super cute!

What kind of fridge-cleaning skills do the green-haters have? I don't think that looks like mold at all... I toss my bread when I get a bit growing, instead of waiting until it turns all green! =)
This is absolutely darling and I like the green portion.
I'm in the green camp, it's just a color and it's consistent, like a painted wall...a backdrop, for Pete's sake. I love it.
I like the green portion too, people judging food by it's color reminds me of picky kids who do not eat their vegetables. Its green tea people, get over it and take a bite!
Adorable!
How about turning the panda into a polar bear?
Dead to right about the fridge cleaning.I'll assume their imagination is rather moldy too.
Shake your heads! This technique could be used to make many different kinds of 'animal' breads.Live a little...it's a recipe, not rocket surgery.
I don't understand how people can have such negative connotations with colours.Very narrow minded.
It's not just green! It's matcha! The whole point is that it's got a green tea flavored outside. That's what makes it panda bread, the asian flavor. Asian goodies, especially japanese treats use green tea flavoring in all kinds of foods and breads. It makes a lot of sense and it doesn't look like mold. It looks like asian-y deliiciousness.

Thanks for that input.I am not familiar with Japanese cuisine.Your right....tea flavouring is a norm.
matcha?...now I'm intrigued.Another thing I am not familiar with.
What a great recipe.
I need to convert it since metric is not my system, but the green reminds me of bamboo. Mold? Really? How unkind. I think my daughter, whose camp name was Panda, is going to love this.
