Two wrongs don't make a right, but we're willing to reconsider especially after seeing this pairing of patterns in Australia's Vogue Living. Thanks to the similarities of the pattern on both the sofa and the rug, this combination appears to be working together rather than clashing. Also doesn't hurt that the texture and color are luxurious and muted either...

Normally I'm really nice with my comments, but this time, I have to say...barf.
well, you're right that it's not openly clashing, but...i still don't think it's so good. you'd expect all that texture to produce richness, but instead it just looks flat. and a little annoying.
no?
I like those colors together a lot. The thing that is really bothering me with this picture is the fact that the lampshade is way too high, you can see the base for the harp.
Do not want.
eh, not crazy about this look.
It's a good idea in theory, but only if the sofa had a more modern print, like the carpet does. The velvety-looking sofa with the floral print just screams "grandma's house" to me. I do like the colors together!
What is she wearing?
erm ⦠no thank you.
oops! that was supposed to be ... no thank you.
(sorry)
I'm sorry but that looks awful
I think the dress clashes.
This was in Vogue???
I agree that the lampshade is waaay tooo high...
..and I'm not too keen on the sofa fabric either - looks a bit "80's Levitz velour" to me.
i like it because you all hate it. (;
patterns aside, this place looks awkward. i want to go there now, pull the rug closer to the sofa and get a coffee table in there! and then change the proportions of every item in that room.
and that lady... what is that, a long sleeve t-shirt under a dress, belted. it makes sense that she lives here.
Is she dressed like a reverse Snow White for a reason? The combo isn't my taste.
Actually the dress seems "ABBA" inspired when you think about it...
the idea is nice but must not be executed by a novice!
Since when are we supposed to worry about patterned rugs clashing with patterns elsewhere in the room? Patterned oriental rugs have often been matched with chintz or other patterns, with no worries about "clashing."
