Curtains and window coverings cause a lot of people angst, but here's a homeowner who chose to grow some green to block their view. I know what you're thinking — how do they see out? But it's the ground floor on a busy street in a bustling neighborhood, chances are there's never a good to time to be on display.
To see for yourself, swing by the corner of Prince and McDougal Street.

I would be creeped out if people were taking pictures of my window and giving out my address for people to stop by...
But anyway, I think this is a great idea. I'm trying to do something similar by putting a bunch of plants on my balcony. Plants are expensive though! This person must have spent a fortune on all these.
We had two neighbors whose big kitchen windows faced each other. One installed a (get this) hot pink, white and silver stained-glass window (her kitchen was hot pink). The other installed shelves across the window and filled them with beautiful plants.
If you have a green thumb, this is a gorgeous alternative to traditional window coverings.
I actually had my balcony (and part of my livingroom) full of plants of all sorts. I loved it how my father's girlfriend kept everything stunning.
It is beautiful, calming, amazing and all the great things... but truth is... it, as everything else good in life, comes with sacrifice...
If you live in an apartment and having lots of plants, hanging indoors... watering (and fertilizing and pest control) can be a logistical craze....
If you have the time.. perfect...!!! If not... wel... it still could be done with fewer and very well selected types of plants...
This is what I'm doing in my kitchen. I'm in a rural area and have no neighbors, but the window faces my blindingly-white garage, and I want to do something that harnesses that great light.
I did this in my last apartment, it had a big picture window that faced into the coutyard of the building. Pulling the shades would have made it feel gloomy and enclosed, the window full of plants let light in but still provided privacy. All the hanging plants were in the kind of pot that has a built in drip tray, and all the tall floor plants were on big plates, no problem watering at all.
This is what we are planning to do in our new apartment! The bedroom is in the middle of the apartment and doesn't have a window that looks outside. It's slightly weird but for some odd reason there is a bench and a window seat that looks out into the mudroom instead. So we are planning on putting up shelves and tons of plants along the window in the mudroom so that it looks like a forest from the bedroom. And that way guests wont be able to see into our room when they walk by.
I know these people! So funny that I just saw this. They own the entire building and use the front rooms a green house of sorts.....there are lights that go on at night.
Once while I was walking by I was a few tourists and the woman was looking in the window and she sais, "what a lovely plant shop!" Haha.
