In the June issue of Martha Stewart Living, which we were thumbing through yesterday during lunch, I came across a beautiful, very Martha-esque article on Rebecca Robertson's summer cottage. Ok, so it's a rental out on Long Island, but Rebecca totally styled this shingle shack out and totally got me going in thinking about how the outdoors can use a little bit of color, just like the indoors. Check out these pics.

While hanging colorful plates on the outside of the house is totally picturesque and over the top, look at the outdoor shower curtain (great idea), the fire pit and chairs and the sweet chalkboard by the entrance. Everything in the pics is sourced in June's issue.

Shaw's Original Fir...
so inspirational! i got good ideas for my back yard!
I *totally* love it.
I take that back. I don't love the LA Plates thing. Also, since they're plastic, assume they will be sun damaged and curling in a matter of a few days. Don't get me wrong, I like LA Plates, I even have one that I use as a fun serving tray...
Ah! I *need* a drop down table attached to the bottom of my window on our patio!
"OK, so it's a rental out on Long Island, but..."
Sheesh. Got to love New York. "Oh, it might be accessible to the top 3% of Americans instead of only the top 1%, but I swear it's still worthwhile!"
;-)
super cute!
LOVE LOVE LOVE that.....
A fun way of decorating inexpensively, with objects that can be pitched away after one Summer Season. If left outside and stolen, SO WHAT!
I love what they did with the outdoor shower curtain. We have an outdoor shower and I have been trying to figure out how to make it more private :)
When I read that article in the magazine, I wondered if they'd gotten their landlord's permission to make all those changes. Maybe the landlord knew from the get-go that the renter had impeccable, MSL-worthy taste, but if I were in his/her position, I'd be very leery of letting summer tenants have their way with my precious rental cottage.
YES!!! The outdoor shower. Totally cool. Thanks for sourcing the half oval curtain rod, Maxwell!
