Look! Shaker Organization in Hancock Village

Last week, we had the chance to visit Hancock Shaker Village in Massachusetts. Among the many instances of good design and beautifully crafted furniture, what stood out most was the sense that there was a place for everything and everything was in its place...

Peg rail is probably the most famous organizational tool, used to hang everything from chairs to yarn to hats, but we also saw lots of built-in storage, labeled cans and jars, and organized kitchen cabinets.

The Shakers loved to store things vertically, and they loved to use wall-mounted pieces. A few concepts we noticed (that were great ideas for small space living) included a wall-mounted desk that ingeniously saves space, folding towel racks, and drying racks.
