Some might argue that shoes should live in the closet, but when I (finally) get a pair of Louboutins those babies will be displayed proudly. And since most women buy shoes because they look pretty, it makes sense to be able to admire them the other 300+ days when they aren't being worn. These moldings are the perfect way to do just that.
Living Etc. posted this out of the box idea as one of their solutions to shoe storage. They correctly point out that it will work best in an alcove as the ends of the molding can be flush with the wall. However, with some creative beveling this could easily work on any wall. The real challenge is finding a paint color that coordinates with all the lovely heels in your closet.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Works best in a single gals home...can't see a man really wanting shoes hung on the wall. Nice idea though. :-)
Nice! I like :)

This would be cool to do inside a long closet too, for your prettiest shoes.
I love this. In fact, I keep wanting to subscribe to Living Etc. just to be on top of all of their fab ideas. HOWEVER, and I hate to be the Debbie Downer here, I think that the soles of those shoes would make that white wall very dirty very fast. I think I'd go with chalkboard paint instead.
Considering what most urban dwellers are stepping on all day while navigating the sidewalks, do you really want your shoes up on the wall like that?
Looks lovely, but will the high heels just stay perched there themselves without any means of support?
So prettt but....how will you keep the wall clean and where do you store/display the pretty ballet flats and boots?
Cosmolola, my thought, too. Most of my shoes don't have heels that high.
Mid-C Frank, why not? You walk into the house with them on, after all.
don't do this near a bed! You'll wake up when heels are hitting you in the face!
They do stay perched.. but very precariously!
I almost said the exact same thing as creative license, "Debbie Downer" and all. Cute, but maybe for shoes you don't wear often or make sure to clean the soles before putting them back (and not on a white wall).
Calm down, everyone... obviously, none of the shoes shown are "everyday" shoes... I don't think anyone's talking about perching Doc Marten's on the wall.
very ingenious, simple and executable by almost anyone -- a perfect AT post.
with a wall-colored 1X3 running under the moulding (where the toe of the shoe sits), the angle would be even better for securing shoes/heels (and create a easier to clean (or repaint) strip)
with a bit more ingenuity, you could fabricate something similar for lower-heeled shoes and boots (narrow shelf?)... just the kind of post to get the wheels turning.
Pretty cool. Since I can last about 5 minutes in heels, the best place for the is on display anyway! I arrange them by color, hehe.

Um, how does a sidewalk know the difference?

re: "You'll wake up when heels are hitting you in the face!"
I hate it when that happens.
@ia2sf I wear shoes like that every day since work requires me to dress up a bit and heck if I'm not going to have fun with it. But having them not be everyday shoes doesn't actually mitigate any of the issues people have brought up.
Awesome! but I dont think I will need one since I have enough heels to hang
so many shoes with bows.
This wouldn't be practical since you are looking into the innards of the shoes, which get very unpretty after any wear. I prefer to display all of my heels on a narrow bookcase, 3 pairs a shelf.
I did this and it's great! I did it in my closet and am now able to store so many more pairs of shoes! Because it's hidden away in the closet, I opted for less "pretty" moulding and I'm not really concerned with how dirty the walls get. However, I was even able to use a 7" space of wall between the closet door and the adjoining wall to "display" several choice pairs. Thanks so much for this idea!!!!!!!!!
newyorklady1....you give your fella a say in interior design!?!? Lol my house is kind of like the lorings house in Juno..he gets his own room for all his stuff. (being model race cars, tonnes of computer crap & guitars)
I like this idea of keeping shoes on display but I would be concerned about scratching the walls. Maybe if it was all mounted on some backing & then attatched to the wall.
I wish I had shoes pretty enough to display like that! THOSE look fab, but mine... not so much :)
Perhaps it's just me, but I don't really foresee the walls getting that dirty? The heels won't be continuously moving along the mouldings once placed - they should stay in one position for a great deal of time, no? Of course I clearly understand the grime from walking the streets of NYC, but I guess I just don't see too much of a problem. As someone stated above, these shoes are not worn every day. Plus, it'll look fantastic and it might just be worth a little elbow grease if necessary :).
For me, I'd rather save the money otherwise spent on a pair of Louboutins and buy myself a proper, well-made shoe rack. And with the leftover money, completely furnish the rest of my apartment!
Obviously NOT "most women" here -- I just replaced my year-old black, flat, Grasshoppers ($40) with an exact duplicate pair, the only shoes I wear normally. (My prescription insoles fit and I can wear them to work with any of my slacks.) Not hanging them on any walls!!!
I have never understood the fascination with shoes a lot of women do have, though... maybe because I can't wear the fancy kind, I never got the interest, but even if I could, they are just shoes. Not art. They belong in closets, not cluttering the view!
But if you like it, go for it!
Pretty sure this works best with picture-rail molding.
But you know, if this were a feature about guys displaying their baseball hat collection...

Hilarious.
i this this a great idea :-D
LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. Now I just need a place where I can put the molding.
