We've been a huge fan of hanging unframed artwork with binder clips like Elizabeth blogged about here. (Make sure to put a little piece of paper over your artwork, though, as binder clips can rust in humid conditions...) But this might be our favorite alternative framing idea so far...
Jessica over at The Window Ledge used two vintage skirt hangers to put up an oddly sized poster. After no luck finding a suitable frame, she clamped this piece into two hangers and put it on the wall. We love the look of the simple wood and metal hangers as a frame, and applaud Jessica for her ingenuity!
It's obvious that Jessica isn't new to unique wall-hangings, as evidenced by her great collage of ephemera from flea markets and thrift stores. We love the spools of colored thread in a grid. Gorgeous!

Love it! I did the same with my Manhattan Ork poster too! $2 per skirt hanger at Ikea.
I've always used binder clips for smaller pieces, but this is brilliant! I have the SF Ork poster, which is a square format and won't work as well with the hangers, but I will definitely be giving this a go with a more elongated piece.
oh wow what a great idea! and thanks for the ikea tip beng!
Oh, that's just cool!
oooh i just ordered an ork poster ( didn't know they had one for Seattle!!! ) and may have to put those skirt hangers on my next ikea-trip-list.
This is a great idea- I like it better than using binder clips. Binder clips can leave little pinch marks, while this would be gripping evenly across the piece, with no "pressure points."
vintage pant hangers work great for this as well - etsy and ebay generally have a bunch for about a dollar a piece. one caveat though - sometimes the felt is missing and needs to be replaced in order to actually hold the print.
I've always liked this idea. Thanks for the IKEA tip!
This is seriously a great idea. Especially for all the odd-size posters I tend to pick up.
I did this with an odd shaped piece of art for a while, but I never thought to add a second one at the bottom!
duh! what a good idea!
i'm a fan. in the process of unpacking my new place and trying to figure out how to display everything i want to. this is a great idea.
Thanks!!!
I did this in my living room with a vintage hanger from my grandmother's closet. It looks fab!
I'm living abroad for 6 months and needed to decorate my temporary apartment without investing too much so I totally used this trick! I didn't have fancy vintage hangers so I just used some cheap ones from IKEA... http://tinyurl.com/2woha5e
