Now that we live in a larger place than ever, our pressing need for small space storage isn't quite the same. We are still trying to maintain a simple, organized, and efficient home life, though, and part of the charm of an old bungalow is discovering the small details and efficient use of all the space...
This area is pretty convenient and cool: an old ironing board closet that we turned into a home for our spices and shopping bags.
Anyone else have some old-fashioned home details that you've integrated into your life in new ways of doing things? For us, we'd rather not iron in the kitchen, so using the ironing closet for spices and shopping bags is the perfect solution. Now we just need to install more shelves for all of our jars...

They look great in there. Are the glass sort of hour-glass shaped ones from Ikea?
I love small-space solutions like this - I wish I had similar shallow cabinets tucked into my walls...
I just picked up a bunch of those containers at Crate & Barrel's outlet store. Love them!!
yup - those jars are all Crate and Barrel.
Looks nice. However, that twisted shelf bracket makes me nervous. All that glass on glass!
oh my gosh - Mojonson....i didn't even notice that. yikes!! thanks. going to fix right now.
Suggestion for old house ironing-We use an over the door ironing board on the inside of our bedroom closet, with the iron in the closet. It's there when we need it and we don't have to iron in the creepy old basement.
Hi Heather, Where did you get your shelves? I love this idea!! Thanks for posting! Amy
Ajem321: the shelves were already in place when we moved in. We did add one, though (just measured and got some glass cut at our local hardware store). good luck!
