On a recent visit to McGill University in Montreal, we stepped into the campus' main library to take a look around. While the entire building is a fine specimen of brutalist architecture, we just couldn't keep our eyes off their minimalist step stools in the aisles...

The step stools are made of square metal frames finished in a tomato-ey orangey-red that reminds us of what we think of as Donald Judd red. The seats (or steps) are a simple, square wood slab mounted to the frame. We love a few things about these: their rectilinear form, their bright color that punches in the stacks of books (we imagine this may be for safety but it looks good), and their appearance of being a very high backed chair.
