Look! Tater-Stamped Kitchen Curtain

Our friend, nearby neighbor and crafting grand poobah Jenny Ryan shared this really fun DIY project using a potato...yes, a spud, Bud...to embellish some Tekla towels from IKEA into a custom stamped kitchen curtain. Details below...

I've been wanting to try out potato printing for a while now--hadn't done it since I was a kid--and I also needed some new kitchen curtains, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and stamp up some new window coverings. This is an extremely quick and easy project you can whip up in an hour or so. Best of all, the curtains are made by stitching tea towels together, so there are no hems to sew and you can hang them using curtain clips. Here's how I made mine.

I absolutely adore this! I've been thinking about potato stamps lately -- it's such a simple technique.

I was just watching PeeWee Herman's old Christmas special where he tricked Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon into making handmade Christmas cards for him with potato stamps. It was practically slave labour. He even gave them bread and water.

My mom once got really fancy with potato print Christmas cards... pine trees and a kid walking through the snow and a rainbow, I kid you not, she hand-colored each section with watercolors. She didn't use slave labor for those, but she did chain me to the silkscreen this other year.

These are great! I have to comment on the plate though... I LOVE these, my parents had a set of them when I was a kid and I get strangely excited whenever I see them somewhere!
