In my previous place, tenants left behind an immersible mixer, which we happily cleaned and used! Unfortunately it stopped working a few months before we moved out, but no skin off our backs since it was free!

When we moved into a new house as a kid, someone had left a large blue Buddha statue in the attic. I promptly used it for a school project & lost it.

As an apartment manager for 20 years I can tell you that people leave lots of wonderful stuff behind. (a lot of junk too) It almost becomes an addiction to be the person that redistributes all the orphaned things because you run out of room and can't bear to part with lovely, usable things. My favorite was an old Limoge chocolate pot. It was in the far back corner of a top cupboard and I didn't find it until a second set of folks had moved out. Never found the owner so I enjoyed it for many years.

I found a cordless drill and thought I saved bucks by not having to buy one. Then I found the reason it was left behind when I tried to use it and it arc'd, spark'd, and billowed smoke.

I've since bought a corded drill on craigslist and mad sure to test it before bringing it home.

porn, bad poetry, a prom dress, yahtzee!, and four library books the local library was really excited to have back after six years.

Sorry this is a downer and I hope it doesn't happen often...In my undergrad days I rented a lower flat near campus and someone left a cat in a bedroom closet. It had to have been there for several days. Oops.

I forgot to mention Jesus in my garage. I pointed their savior out to the previous own during a joint final walk through and she wouldn't touch it. It has been there through three owners now since the house was built in the '20s, I don't know what to do, if only he didn't look so sad...

Ugh, all the previous tenant left me was a mess. The oven was so dirty it took a landlord-supplied maid service, my mother, and me, in three different attempts, to get it anywhere near clean. And the kitchen floor was in such bad shape the landlord just gave up and replaced it. At least now it's clean!

What did you do with the cat Jacasi? Don't leave a story with no end. : (

i've only ever rented at large commercially managed properties that do full turns inbetween tenants, so the only things I've ever found are carpet stains and crumbs from poor cleaning jobs. The maintenance men tend to grab the good stuff....the maintenance guys at properties that I used to work at found everything from a weight bench will all the weights to cabinets full of dishware to ... sad as it is...pets. That is actually how I got one of my cats, that is how my sister and one of my co-workers got their cats (both from the same horrible woman) and that is how our maintenance guy got his cat.

They say abandoned pets are becoming a big problem with foreclosures now too...people will leave their dog in the backyard, or in a utility room or put their cat in the closet. People are AWFUL.

yes, people are awful. that's so incredibily ignorant and irresponsible. to leave them to starve...i've even heard they'll start eating the carpet..to try and stay alive. it makes me want to cry. i can't imagine what is in people that would allow them to do that to animals. i would never in my wildest dreams be able to leave my pets behind.

hopefully everyone around can keep an eye out for things like this, to keep it from happening!

Nothing good. Filthy apartment, a few filthy chairs, pieces of a futon and old clothes in the basement, grime and a few old dishes in the kitchen cabinets. Oh, and a torn and lopsided curtain on one window.

when we moved into our last apartment, we discovered two 8-10"ish troll dolls in the freezer. needless to say, they made the move with us to the new apartment last month.

I have these chairs! 2 of them, with the metal in brown instead of white. Bought them some years ago in a thrift shop here in Sweden for about 2 USD.

Elisabet - Any idea of where they're from? Ours have no markings on them whatsoever.

I accidentally left a kitchenaid stand mixer in my last apartment, realized it within an hour of leaving, and contacted the new tenants. At first they "couldn't find it" even though I told them exactly where it was. When it magically turned up, I asked them to leave it in the basement, as I still had a few items there to pick up later in the week, and I didn't want to bother them with a pick up. They agreed over email but never complied...now I'm out a stand mixer. It's been three months and I'm still in mourning.

Ugh. I hate it when pets are abandoned, but at least those people could leave the pets outdoors where they might have a fighting chance or might be rescued by someone. This isn't helping my overall misanthropy, dammit.
