Although Anthony over at Unplggd went goo-goo-ga-ga over Johan's admirable list of home theater components, it's really the huge and beautifully displayed 1200 DVD collection display composed of IKEA LACK pieces that had us in awe. Inset into an inviting and snug sleeping nook, the Blockbuster-size collection even extends beneath the bed with a pull-out bed drawer housing an additional 1000 cinematic titles to peruse through. What we love about Johan's work besides using affordable pieces of IKEA LACK components is how he's arranged certain items for aesthetic and space saving purposes, specifically how he's taken advantage of vertical space. Anywhere where there's a low grounded element, Johan has matched with an accompanying shelving solution. And note how he's mounted a slim DVD player underneath the shelf, giving him more usable storage space. The overhead spot lighting is also a fine looking and affordable solution, creating contrast with the exterior darker painted wall additionally decorated with a Modesty Blaise art piece.
The long dining table provides ample space for dining and additional work activities.

Living in California, I don't think I could sleep very soundly wondering if the "Big One" might hit and send all those dvd's down on me during the night.
That being said, it looks great! Superb use of vertical space.

What a great place! I have a question about the bed, please, which looks very cozy by the way. I have always wondered how people use these toppers or whatever that is. What are the parts (mattress, topper, comforter)? What do you sleep under? is there a sheet?
And still he can never choose a movie. ;) Just kidding, this is pretty amazing. Very clever use of space.

Beautiful, beautiful space. I love how this exemplifies that it is not necessary to just do away with all of the things you love in order to have an organized, well-executed home. This juxtaposes minimalism and maximalism in a really interesting way.

dave.darling - we all have our little hobbies or whatever that makes us happy and for some of us that includes buying dvds. Now I can't speak for Johan, but I know I rarely pay "full price" for a dvd (more like $3-5) so your estimate may be quite off.
But even if he did spend $36,000 on movies, who cares as long as he is happy? I think it is astonishing when I see the cost of some of the furniture featured here sometimes, but I wouldn't call those who buy it "gross" just because it's not how I would choose to spend my money.
OK, I have about 10 DVDs. Total. Two are boxed sets Almost all were gifts.
I NEVER WATCH THEM.

This is the most amazing collection of books and movies I've ever seen and I sent the images to my sister, who is also a film buff. The level of organization is just wonderful!
The lighting makes all the difference.
You can certainly tell where this guy's priorities lie...
A gazillion DVD's, Uber-High end media equipment (a flat screen monitor AND a video projector!), gold-plated cables, a collection of single-malt whiskeys...
...and cheap furniture.
(Perhaps he did or didn't spend $36K on the DVD's, but he spent about as much as a new Volvo on all the electronics.)

i guess my dvd collection is about half of this one, and i never have a problem deciding what i want to watch when i want to watch something. also - ebay? i might have about a dozen dvds i bought at full price …

what a massive waste of storage!! we have two metal cases each about the size of a tackle box that hold approximately 750 DVDs. You recycle the plastic DVD cases, place the DVDs in the sleeves, type the names into an Excel sheet to print out and voila! You can find any DVD you want to watch in about 2 seconds. It takes maybe two hours of prep time on a rainy afternoon, and you have all your discs in the space of about 4 shoe boxes. And yeah, living in Southern California, I would be really worried about those DVDs crashing on my head lol.
