It's almost picnic season! Sure, you could always buy a picnic blanket this summer, but if you're handy with the sewing machine, you can make your own and avoid some picnic pitfalls in the process. Here are three clever picnic blanket tutorials.
Nothing kills a picnic faster than than soggy grass. Over at Craft Buds, Mary used a shower curtain base to make her blanket waterproof! It also cleverly folds into an attached tote bag, so it's always ready to go.
Erin at Sew, Mama Sew included corner rock pockets on her patchwork blanket. Once filled, they keep the blanket from blowing away. Genius!
Cherry Menlove includes an adorable blanket holder in her tutorial. It buttons around a rolled blanket and has a handle for easy portability. Why didn't I think of that?

super clever ideas! rock pocket in particular... would never had thought of that, but it seems so obvious now :D
I am so going to combine all of these ideas! And reusing old sheets/blankets is environmentally friendly as well.
Inspiring - I'm going to make one, but will use a bit of tarpaulin/ground-sheet to protect blanket.
