Check out this shelving system — it's made from cardboard forms for concrete tubing. Instructables user nagutron had set the tubing aside to make speakers, but we think these shelves are a great looking, practical application of the material.
Nagutron made flat surfaces within the tubes out of books, but one could just as easily make the bases out of plywood, sheet metal or glass.

Practical? humm...
My dad made these for my bedroom about 15 years ago. My clever architect father must have been ahead of his time.
Interesting, but not going to float at my place. Space is at a premium and too much is lost in the bubbles.
I hate the shelves. I can see the tubes being used as based for dining room tables, ottomans, coffee tables. Using them as shelving seems like such a waste of space and they're not that attractive.
Tubes with books on them ain't a system.
