One thing to think about in your home is how much of your space you want to dedicate to decor and accents. You want your home to feel balanced and light so consider what spaces you want to fill up. We spotted this...
...great use of unused space and wanted to share it with you. The stacked books feel balanced here while providing visual interest and also storage. Keep in mind, however, that some space in your home may be better kept open to create a sense of negative space. One tip for helping you to decide if you should utilize the space or leave it bare is to simply look around and see how you feel in it.

if that's a window, all those poor books are going to fade.
My mom keeps books in front of a window like that. to minimize fading, we put some opaque paper between the glass and the books.
I seem to remember my aunt having a print like this one when I was very young.
I've had books near a window and the all faded. Be sure you account for that. (the light wasn't direct, but oh well... )
A trick from an old place of mine:

Sorry but I don't like this at all. I think it's way too top-heavy and crushes the space. From the reflection in the mirror it seems this room is in fact high enough for an adult to stand upright in, but this shelf arrangement makes me duck just looking at it.
A single low shelf or small bookcase beside the chair would provide just as much book storage as well as enough space to show off the picture, and would have enough "head room" to make it feel airy and relaxing.
It may be that this is a strict interpretation of the "hang art at eye level" thing, but I've always felt that whereas that is fine for an art gallery, whose main function is to display art, but it's rarely right for a home, whose main function is to be lived in. in fact I think this photograph illustrates that point pretty well.
At first I thought they had a bold red arrow on the wall.
I thought, "Wow, just call attention to your clutter and it's art!"
SPHH - glad to see I resorted to the same trick after all those faded books! jejeje I never quite got the reason why people would do this until my father installed my current door-high shelf. Now I'm trying to find out ways to expan this concept throughout my apt.
