We're trying to convince one of our friends that he needs to do something similar to this. Living in a small studio apartment he's after all the storage he can get!! While we would be hesitant to build a unit around something as disposable as a TV, this unit by Martin Davis appears to be adjustable. Commissioned with the only requirements being that it had to be interesting, relatively inexpensive and fit some specific items, we think this is a really attractive way to use the wall space.
As you can see from the picture, each group in the wall unit is a different depth with the aim to create "a 3 dimensional, sculptural look to the piece". We like the Mondrian-esque aesthetic of the different coloured cupboard doors and the range of timbers throughout the unit.
Have you ever had a piece furniture commissioned? Did you have a very specific design or did you leave it open ended similar to this wall unit?
For more information on this unit or any of Martin Davis' other work you can visit his website here.
