First it was dark granite and cherry cabinets and then it was white cabinets and marble countertops and white subway tile, but now, at long last, color is finally starting to creep its way back into the kitchen. Colorful tile is one of our favorite new trends for the kitchen, and we've rounded up plenty of examples here to get you inspired.

Above and up top: I love the way the bold tile in this kitchen from Coco + Kelley repeats on the floor. The gold upper cabinets might be a bit much for some, but the lovely woodgrain cabinets and dark engineered-stone countertops are a bit more subtle, and a perfect counterpart to the raucous color of the backsplash and floor.

This kitchen, from De Dujes, plays it safe with white cabinets, but works in just a bit of quirky color with some patterned tiles on the side of the island.

Colorful tiles are the perfect way to add just a little pizazz to a very modern or very conservative space, as evidenced by this kitchen from Est Magazine.

Patterned tiles make a kitchen from Lovely Life anything but boring.
