did you have to stick any weights on the back of the poster to keep it from curling up?

no weights, the poster straightened out on it's own from hanging. The bottom curls up the slightest amount (which you can see if you look closely at the second photo) but not enough to be a problem.

I love this idea. Its whimsical and simple.

I have also seen it done with the nail up high, and the clip hanging from a piece of string or rope.

i've see this and thought about it, but won't the binder clip wreck the poster by pinching it too hard?

Love the idea! Thought might not work in rooms where you have fan or a draft

How funny - I'm dogsitting this weekend in an amazing West Village apartment, and that poster is hanging in the bedroom! I love it.

This is exactly what we need to do with our oddly sized Bob Dylan concert poster. Awesome idea.

i agree with lisa in terms of the work being exposed to the elements, etc.

but i also appreciate the stark, modern, *cheap* elements of hanging work like this.

i would recommend, however, folding a small piece of acid-free paper in half (or quarters, for more protection), and placing that over the portion of the poster/print/photo that you clip to help prevent significant indentations, rust and slippage.

another fun thing, for large prints, are the large steel "alligator clips" that you can buy at the hardware store. we hung a series of prints in the gallery i worked for with these, and they were very well received...

I just hung a calendar in my kitchen this same way, two minutes before logging on... which I feel so much better about now I've seen this thread

saw this in a design book recently... something about Flea Market Style... and thought it was super cool. Going to try it out. :) Great for kids rooms for when they are constantly painting stuff you have to hang up. :)

I really like this idea. I saw the post on this site about organizing by using clipboards and have since set up this system in my bedroom. I plan to spray paint and stencil the clipboards as the brown doesn't really go with my decor. I currently have empty frames on my wall that I use as a sort of shelf/frame for postcards and fabric flowers. I have found that affixing art to the back of the frame with scotch tape works too. Probably not a technique you want to use for anything you hope to keep perfectly intact as it might rip but so far it has worked well for me.

I've been using this technique for awhile now - works well for pieces that are matted with plex, too. The only problem I've encountered is that my cat likes to lift one of the posters off its hook.

My cat does that, too. He thinks it's hilarious.

I love binder clips...I saw a post here a while ago about it and now use them everywhere.

i've been doing this for a while too. (validation! woo hoo! :) if you want to make sure the bottom edges don't curl up, just flatten your poster out using some heavy--and clean--books. after a few days underneath my OED, my posters are flat and ready to be hung with nary a curl in sight.
