Los Del Patio operates in a unique social space in the heart of Panama City. Located in the UNESCO world heritage site of Casco Viejo, Los Del Patio aims to marry the old world with new innovation, art, music and of course, food.
When I arrived at Los Del Patio this past Valentine's, I was treated to music of a local band, a festive photo booth for smooching couples and a dj who blasted lovey-dovey tunes well into the night. I could immediately sense that this place had more to offer than your average cafe.
The space at Los Del Patio is both indoor and outdoor, so the architecture of the building (built in 1927), represents the versatile identity of the center. The space is quite homey yet easily transformed to showcase performance art, musical acts or small plays, depending on the schedule of events. The cafe helps support the cultural center by serving up fizzy juices, hot coffees and some pretty fantastic empanadas. Local artists show work in a tightly curated gallery space and the shop sells wares by area artisans that also help support many of the cultural activities enjoyed here. This wide variety of programing and events at Los Del Patio reflects the diverse nature of Panama in a cultural setting.
